Jade is beautiful. When I heard her distress, I was ready to kill for her, and while I don’t quite understand why she was upset, she seems to be recovered.

I can therefore allow the Velvero to complete her work and provide my mate with everything she deserves. I never expected the mayor to pay for what Jade needs—I have more than enough credits to do so—I just wanted to see how far I could push him.

How much he wanted the nevving celebrations to be a success. Turns out, he wants it quite a lot.

Qrow watches me with interest as I pace outside the shop. I insisted he keep the door open so if Jade needs me I can be in there within a seccari.

“You actually like the human?” he asks after a while.

“Human?”

“Jade. She’s a human.”

I growl to myself, the collar buzzing slightly against my skin. I should know what my mate is. I should not have Qrow telling me.

“She came with Sarkarnii?” I reach for him, grabbing hold of his clothing and pulling him against me. Qrow doesn’t bat an eyelid. He keeps grinning. “When were you going to tell me?”

The collar doesn’t make a sound.

“I thought you knew and were avoiding them,” Qrow says.

“I’ve been trying to fix my ship for three nova-years in order to find other Sarkarnii, especially after I lost…” The collar whines, and I drop Qrow to the ground. “I needed to know.”

“Why not ask Jade if she can contact them for you? They could come back,” Qrow suggests from his prone position.

It’s a pretty good suggestion, but I ignore him. My scales are itching so badly, I know my shed is near, and I still don’t have an aquium to assist. The thought of my last shed is enough to make me shudder. It was more than painful without access to a body of water.

And if I can’t shift either? I’m in for a very uncomfortable few turns, and not just because of the pulsar bolt injury to my leg which burns at me constantly.

“I can’t ask my mate for anything,” I say.

“I think you can,” Qrow replies. “After what you did for her.”

I have him in a vice-like grip again, his face pressed almost to mine.

“If you tell her, I will kill you and eat you, Qrow. No, I’ll eat you and kill you,” I add with a smile. “That way I get to see the look on your face as you are devoured.”

“I won’t tell her anything,” Qrow squeaks. “I haven’t told her anything.”

“Told who what?” Jade’s voice has me dropping Qrow like he is a Bogarok youngling.

She is on the threshold of the Velvero’s shop and wearing a dress which clings to her every curve. It is red, the color of my scales and flame, with darts of gold running through. The neckline gathers enough I can get a glimpse of the dip between her breasts, and her delicious stomach, rounded with young is visible too. She wears a jacket made from the softest hide, in a dark gray, which looks warm and comfortable.
